The chief executive of New Zealand Merino, the sales and marketing organisation that promotes the fibre in the international marketplace on behalf of the country’s wool growers, has been named outstanding international business leader at the 2010 New Zealand Trade and Enterprise International Business Awards.

John Brakenridge has been chief executive of New Zealand Merino since it was established in 1996. He said on accepting the award from the country’s minister for economic development, Gerry Brownlee, that it represented recognition for the wool growers he represents, referring to them as “the 700 high country farmers that dared to be different in the way they take their product to market”.
