Textile organisations send letter of protest over India's cotton policy

The global cotton industry has rounded on India for its decision to restrict cotton exports to 5.5 million bales this season. Some industry representatives have suggested the move is in violation of World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules.

Industry organisations from the US, the European Union, Mexico and Turkey have sent a joint letter to their respective governments asking for immediate action to halt cotton trade restrictions by the Indian government, Indian media have reported.

India has imposed a restriction on cotton exports to keep domestic supply steady in the wake of rising prices.
