Tunisian football team ends Puma contract
Tunisia’s national football team will end its sponsorship deal with Puma in January. The team has signed a new four-year deal with Swiss sportswear firm Burrda that is worth 6.8 million dinars ($4.9 million), double the amount of its existing sponsorship agreement.
President of the Tunisian Football Federation, Ali Hafsi, said: “This is a new company which has a contract with the Belgian FA and we’ve now signed with them considering the importance of the offer they made. We get one million dinars in cash per year, and 700,000 dinars in equipment per year.”
The team will be given extra incentives during the next two African Cups and the 2014 World Cup.
“Every time we make it to the quarter finals we would get 300,000 dinars, said Mr Hafsi. “The deal with Puma was signed six years ago and never changed. There were no performance incentives and we only got 500,000 dinars per year. Now we get double that.”
Burrda sponsors the Belgian national team and English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers. Its general manager served at adidas for 20 years.
