Global yarn and fabric production increases
According to the International Textile Manufacturing Federation (ITMF), yarn and fabric production continued to grow during the second quarter.
Global yarn production rose 18.6% during the second quarter compared with the first quarter of 2010. All regions contributed to this growth, particularly Asia (+19.8%), South America (+10.1%), Europe (+5.3%) and North America (+4.7%).
All regions also recorded higher yarn output levels compared with the second quarter of 2009, with South America leading the way (+21.9%). There was also growth in Europe (+20.3%), Asia (+11.1%) and North America (+4.7%).
Global fabric production during the second quarter grew 16.2% compared with the first quarter. All regions recorded higher output levels, especially Asia (+17.5%) and South America (+11.2%), but also Europe (+7.1%) and North America (+6.9%). Global fabric production grew 10.4% year-on-year. Only North America’s fabric production declined during this period (-4.4%). Production in Europe was up 24.4%, South America’s output rose 14.5% and Asia production grew 9.3%.
