New Zealand optimistic about Russia FTA
Textile representatives in New Zealand hope that a new free trade agreement (FTA) with Russia could give wool exports a significant boost. Exports of wool from New Zealand to Russia used to be considerable; however, export levels have fallen dramatically in recent years.
According to Radio New Zealand, formal discussions about the FTA will take place next year and could also potentially cover Belarus and Kazakhstan. It is hoped that exports of finished woollen items including clothing, sportswear and accessories will receive a significant boost if the agreement goes ahead.
