Peak Sports to open 800 new stores

Chinese sportswear manufacturer Peak Sports plans to open 800 new stores in 2011. According to Bloomberg, the brand is also looking to expand the size of its existing stores, while closing some of its smaller outlets.

Chief financial officer, Denis Tsoi, said that the firm had 7,009 stores in China as of September 30 and plans to have 1,000 outlets by the end of the year.

Peak Sports sponsors 12 US National Basketball Association (NBA) players and has gained 28% in Hong Kong trading this year. Same-store sales are expected to grow 12-15% in 2011. China currently accounts for 89% of the company’s sales.
