Rhodia Polyamide declares Force Majeure

10/12/2010
Following what it has called "sudden failures of utilities" provided by external suppliers to its factory at Chalampé in Alsace in France, polyamide manufacturer Rhodia has said it is "suffering an extraordinary breakage of machinery equipment", and was compelled to declare Force Majeure on its production and deliveries.

In French law, a company can usually only declare Force Majeure to free itself from contract obligations after an event that was unpreventable, unforeseeable and caused by external factors.
