New Outlast polyester fibre promises added value
10/12/2010
This announcement comes four years after the introduction of the first Outlast viscose fiber and 11years after the introduction of Outlast acrylic fibre with phase change material (PCM) functionality.
The newest member of "the Outlast fibre family" is a bi-component fibre with a PCM core and a polyester sheath. Staple fibres will launch in the market first, followed by filament fibres once the production process has been "fully refined", the Outlast announcement said.
The new Outlast polyester fibre will offer the added value of balancing temperature coupled with the characteristics of a conventional polyester fibre (low moisture absorption, ability to transport moisture, improved wrinkle resistance, light, water and wind resistance and durability), the company added.
Commenting from Germany, the managing director of Outlast Europe, Martin Bentz, said: "We hope to have the first Outlast polyester filament fibres available in 2011. Sports apparel made of synthetic fibres such as polyester dominates the market. We believe that with our new Outlast polyester fiber we can offer a significant added value, particularly for the functional apparel market."
The company said the new fibre with temperature management would work particularly well in applications such as underwear and other products worn next to skin such as socks, T-shirts, shirts and trousers. It will present the innovation at ispo 2011 in Munich on February 6-9.
