Ghana athletes look for new kit sponsor
The Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) is in talks with athletic apparel manufacturers Adidas, Puma and Nike over a sponsorship partnership.
The national athletics team has been without a kit sponsor after their agreement with German kit suppliers, Puma expired in 2008.
GAA president, Professor Francis Dodoo, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that there had been initial contact with the three sports equipment manufacturers with the aim of securing kits for the track and field teams.
He added that the athletics team was embarrassed at the recent Commonwealth Games in India, in which members of the women's relay team wore t-shirts during the medal presentation ceremony due to the unavailability of a kit-sponsor.
Professor Dodoo also told the GNA that the association had to plead with the organisers of the Commonwealth Games to delay the medal presentation of the triple jump event because the winner of the bronze medal, Ghana's Ignatius Gaisah, had no tracksuit.
Professor Dodoo, however, said that he remains optimistic of a favourable response from any of the three companies before next year's events.
