Lenzing to showcase Tencel at Heimtextil 2011
Austria-based cellulose fibres specialist Lenzing will be promoting the use of its Tencel fibre in the home textiles market at the Heimtextil exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany (12-15 January).
The company posted record results for the third quarter in November 2010, with sales for the first nine months of the year rising 45.2% from EUR885 million to EUR1.3 million.
Dietrich Eichinger, business unit head for textile fibres, believes there will be increasing demand for cellulosic fibres because of the way the world is changing. “Due to the world’s population explosion, areas of land used for cotton cultivation are directly competing with land used to cultivate foodstuffs,” he says. “This will lead to a further rise in cellulosic fibres since fibres based on crude oil will not be able to satisfy the demand for skin-friendly fibres, As a result, we expect moisture-managing cellulose fibres to be increasingly in demand in the future.”
