Sugoi kits out Liquigas-Cannondale

Canadian sports apparel manufacturer Sugoi has announced that it will provide the 2011 technical kit of professional cycling team Liquigas-Cannondale.

The company made the announcement in Milan on January 10 with two Italian stars of the sport, Vincenzo Nibali and Ivan Basso, in attendance to show off the clothing.

This is the first time Sugoi has agreed to become the kit supplier for an international professional team and the company said it was a “logical next step” for it to do so because of the commitment it has shown to cycling apparel.

The collection will include jerseys, vests, shorts, arm-warmers, gloves and caps. The apparel will have four-way stretch side panels to mould to the body’s contours and “ultra high-tech” skin suits designed to help riders shed valuable second during time trials.

A consumer version of the kit will become available on the wider market from April 1.

Ivan Basso, winner of last year’s Giro d’Italia, commented: “We worked closely with the Sugoi design teams to develop, test and re-test the gear to ensure that it will provide a competitive advantage. When you are halfway through a three-week race, every little thing matters, especially the gear that you wear each day.”
