Lenzing aims to increase skin-friendliness of Tencel

Owing to the smooth fibre structure of Tencel, the company said, it is “particularly silky” next to the skin. Its botanic origin—it is extracted from wood—means that it has particularly good breathing properties and high levels of moisture management capability.
To this, Tencel C adds Chitosan, a natural substance, extracted from shells of shellfish. After cellulose, Chitin is the second most frequent naturally replenishable polysaccaride in the world and ever-present in the natural world, Lenzing said.
Chitosan is already used in cosmetics and in the pharmaceutical industry for its antibacterial properties and its ability to alleviate skin irritation.
