Government to fund wool research in NZ

A research consortium specialising in the wool industry, The Wool Research Consortium, will receive more than US$6.5 million over the next five years from the government’s Foundation for Research, Science and Technology. The Wool Research Organisation and other wool industry stakeholders will attempt to match that funding.
In a joint statement, research, science and technology minister, Wayne Mapp, and agriculture minister, David Carter, said: “The government’s investment in this consortium demonstrates its ongoing commitment to this important industry.”
Mr Carter pointed out that increased research and development for the wool sector was one of the key recommendations of taskforce that the government set up last year to look at ways of maximising New Zealand’s earnings from the fibre.
