REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.), a US based retail co-operative that provides outdoor equipment and clothing, announced today that it had been included in Fortune magazine’s 2011 list of 100 Best Companies to Work For in the US.

Michelle Clements, senior vice-president for human resources at REI, commented: “Our ongoing placement on Fortune’s list is reflected in our employees’ dedication to provide knowledge, support and encouragement to help others lead active lifestyles and to partner with nonprofits that share our commitment to outdoor recreation and stewardship. Their passion is what makes REI a great place to work and what has earned us this honour 14 years in a row.”

REI is the highest of the Washington State-based companies on the 2011 list, beating five others. It has held a place on the list each year since Fortune began the exercise in 1998.
