The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has launched a new label to certify environmentally sensitive products. It is called the BioPreferred Certified Biobased Product label.

In response, the president of DuPont Applied BioSciences, Craig Binetti, said his company applauded the development. In a statement, Mr Binetti said: “The release of the bio-preferred labelling standards will help consumers identify products with bio-based content. This will go a long way to making what used to be alternative products into easily recognised, mainstream items, all while providing consumers with a distinctive choice to buy the products that use renewable content to reduce the use of fossil fuels, reduce emissions and improve environmental sustainability.”

Among the DuPont products he listed as being examples of items that can bear the new label he mentioned Sorona renewably sourced polymer, which already has a series of applications in the performance textiles market.
