Conservation by another name

27/01/2011
The European Outdoor Group Association for Conservation is changing its name. Members voted to use the name European Outdoor Conservation Association instead, saying they believed the name would be more easily recognised and understood by consumers.

In tandem with the launch of the new name, there will be a new website, which the organisation hopes will become a meeting point for member companies, the media, conservation organisations and consumers to discuss grassroots nature conservation projects that the association will work on. Through a voting mechanism, consumers will play an increasing role in deciding which projects should receive funding.

Holger Bismann, president of the association and managing director of Patagonia Europe, said on announcing the new name: “I am delighted with the positive response we have had to the new name for the European Outdoor Conservation Association. Despite only having been founded four years ago, awareness of conservation issues is growing and the momentum of the association is really gathering pace. I am very excited by what we are going to be able achieve in the name of conservation.”
