Austrian textile specialist Lenzing has been awarded the ispo eco responsibility award for the second year running. The award was decided on the basis of the ecological aspects of sustainable production and economic activities in the sports goods industry.

Lenzing entered the category of Fabrics and Fibers with its Tencel Sun fibre. "With an outstanding overall concept, Lenzing was able to convince the jury with regard to all of the individual criteria from the logistics, to the resources used, through to the working conditions in the company," said a statement from the jury at ispo. "The documents submitted document the holistic approach with perfectly implemented detailed solutions and processes. With this Lenzing lays claim to a leading role in the textile branch."

Tencel Sun is made from wood and is 100% biodegradeable. Lenzing claims the fibre is the "eco-friendly alternative to polyester fibres and conventionally finished fabrics with an applied sun protection finish.
