10/02/2011
The event is being sponsored by the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and will be held over three days from February 23. The focus will be to bring together researchers from the UK and Japan to share ideas and explore opportunities for future research.
The highlight of the three-day event will be a public lecture presented by Asics and Mizuno on Wednesday February 23 from 5.30pm in the university’s Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. Dr Tsuyoshi Nishiwaki, general manager of the Asics Sports Science Institute, will present on footwear design methodology, focusing on human responses to shoe design. He will make the presentation with Dr Takeshi Naruo, chief researcher at Mizuno. Dr Naruo will talk about technology for the development of new sports equipment.
Professor Mike Caine, director of the Sports Technology Institute at Loughborough University, is looking forward to welcoming delegates. In the build-up to the event, he said: “It will be an exciting three days for the university and I am delighted to be welcoming leading academic sports engineers and industry experts from such high-profile organisations. As well as the presentations and opportunities for discussion, we will also be conducting a tour of the Sports Technology Institute, which boasts state-of-the-art equipment and bespoke test rigs. The expertise from the research group based here underpins many of the world’s ground-breaking sports products.”
The public lecture is free of charge and is open to members of the public with no registration required.
This event will also strengthen the university’s strong ties with Japan. Loughborough has been confirmed as the base and final preparation camp for the Japanese and GB Olympic squads for the London Olympics in 2012.
