Increase in cotton yarn imports to Japan

Cotton yarn imports into Japan in 2010 increased by 8.1% compared to the year before. The volume of imports last year reached 250,639 bales. Industry commentators have pointed out that imports in 2009 were at a historically low level following the global economic downturn.

By country, imports from Pakistan fell 31.7% to 61,732 bales, while there were significant increases in the volume imported from Indonesia, India and Thailand. Indonesia became the largest supplier last year with imports from this nation rising to 83,627 bales from 56,274 bales in 2009.

Imports of combed yarn sharply rose by 20.5% to 147,280 bales. Imports of cotton blended yarn also grew by 10.6% to 31,791 bales.
