Price of Australian wool hits 20-year high

Australian woolgrowers are enjoying the highest wool prices in decades and analysts are predicting the market will stay strong for some time.

Wool promotions organisation Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) said prices in US dollars had reached their highest level since a boom period in the late 1980s and early 1990s. AWI spokesman, Paul Swan, has told Australian media that the high prices are the result of tight global supply and strong demand.

“In US dollar terms, the price of wool today is as high as it has been in about the last 30 years,” he said. “It’s a great period to be involved in sheep and wool production if you’ve got the numbers.”
