Vaude teams with WWF
As part of its commitment to conserving nature, German mountain sports brand, Vaude has partnered with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), one of Germany’s largest independent environmental conservation organisations.
1% of all sales of Vaude Green Shape products now flow directly into WWF Germany projects for children and youth. A WWF-Vaude Alpine Camp for outdoor-loving kids and youth will kick off the partnership.
“With our new, long-term cooperation, we aim to work together to inspire more people’s enthusiasm for nature, stop the destruction of nature and build a future where people live in harmony with nature,” said Vaude executive manager Dr Antje von Dewitz.
WWF effectively contributes in key ecological regions to the conservation of biological diversity. In Germany, the WWF is particularly active in protecting the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, as well as coastal regions, river systems, wetlands and forests so that endangered species such as the wolf, lynx, bear, fish otter, eagle and sturgeon can populate these natural habitats undisturbed and live there as respected inhabitants and indicators of an intact nature.
Annette Herr, WWF senior manager corporate relations said: “National and international WWF projects prove that the preservation and responsible use of the natural foundation of life is compatible with sustainable, economic development. We are pleased to have found such an exemplary partner in Vaude for our work.”
Green Shape is Vaude’s quality label for products that feature special ecological manufacturing. The criteria for this label are very strict: only products that are made of at least 90% organic cotton or recycled materials, coloured using the eco-friendly Vaude eColour dyeing process or made to conform to the bluesign standard earn the Green Shape quality label.
Over 30% of all products in Vaude’s winter 2011/12 collection bear the Green Shape label.
Vaude’s goal is to raise this percent to a total of 75% within the next five years, to 80% in the apparel collection and to 100% in the kids’ collection.
