S
peakers will include Ligaya Salazar, curator of contemporary programmes at the Victoria & Albert museum in London, and Thomas Turner of Birkbeck, University in London, who will talk about the social and cultural significance of sports shoes through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. A team of researchers from the University of Sheffield will explore how running shoes have made the transition to the street and how “wearing them can change people’s identities”.

Tickets for the event cost £7.50 for students, £20 for others, and include lunch, the private viewing and evening refreshments.

The exhibition will run at the museum in the centre of Northampton until July 3 2011.
