Options in outdoor footwear

Outdoor shoes account for only an estimated 10% of this total and footwear industry organisations in China have been studying a new report from an industry expert who believes this percentage can and should increase. The report suggests that an increased focus on specialist outdoor shoes, to cater for growth in the popularity of outdoor activity among Chinese consumers, will be of benefit to manufacturers.
On the domestic Chinese market, the retail price for a pair of sports shoes is between $30 and $45. For little or no extra cost, footwear manufacturers can make outdoor shoes that will sell for around $60. Footwear industry representatives in Fujian province have said that producers there have already started to realise this and are ploughing resources into making and marketing outdoor shoes.
The report's author has warned that footwear manufacturers need to consider carefully before entering the outdoor market because outdoor enthusiasts have high demands with regard to functionality such as waterproofness and breathability.
