Slingfin sends its tents to Everest
29/03/2011
Bill Allen and Garrett Madison, among other professional climbers, will put Slingfin’s first products to use in the extreme conditions of Mount Everest this April and May.
Slingfin is a new name in the outdoor industry founded last year. Former Mountain Hardwear executives Martin Zemitis and Tim Baka launched the brand at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market exhibition in Salt Lake City in August 2010.
The two founders say SlingFin will create “the most technologically advanced, highest quality outdoor gear and apparel ever made”. On announcing the launch, they explained that their approach is to design and build gear for professional guides and serious users. “Our products may be expensive but are worth the price,” they said. “A strategy of using innovative designs and the best materials available may price SlingFin products at the high end of the market. Simply put, this is an afterthought for us. We do not manufacture to price points. Rather, we make gear for serious users facing serious conditions. Our methodology is purely design and quality driven with no undue influence from marketing managers, bean counters or suits.”
