Pressure on polyester prices continues

11/04/2011
Manufacturers of polyester have warned that price pressure is likely to continue.

Speculation is that crude oil prices in Asian markets are likely to be more than $1.50 a barrel higher in April compared to March as unrest in the Middle East and Africa has continued. This will have a direct effect on the production costs of polyester producers in countries such as China.

Reports say the prices of paraxylene and ethylene, two important feedstocks for polyester, have risen by almost $350 a tonne and $170 a tonne, respectively in the first three months of 2011.
