Turkey: textile sector to increase organic offering
Emre Kizilgünesler, chairman of the Aegean Clothing Manufacturers' Association(EGSD), recently stated that Turkey is aiming to increase its exports of organic textiles.
Mr Kizilgünesler made the statement while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the country’s first organic textile trade fair, Organic Fashion Izmir (OFI),14-16 April, 2011.Turkey overall textile exports for 2010 came to $15 billion, while its organic textile exports touched $60 million, with the global organic textile market touching $6.8 billion, he said. He added that the country presently exports organic textile products to over 30 countries, and intends to boost its share in the world market in near future.
Globally renowned firms including H&M, Adidas, Puma, Nike, GAP and Marks &Spencer, participated in the trade fair along with other international textile companies.
