Original Buff takes quick action on conservation

27/04/2011
Specialist outdoor headwear brand Original Buff has wasted no time in making its mark as a member of the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA). The organisation, an initiative from the European outdoor industry with the objective of protecting the wild areas it cares so passionately about, identifies a series of conservation projects each year and asks members and other outdoor enthusiasts to vote to decide which should receive funding.

Soon after joining EOCA, Original Buff has announced that it intends to fund three of the projects in hteir entirety out of its own pocket.

“This is a fantastic boost for EOCA,” said Holger Bismann, president of the organisation and managing director for Patagonia Europe. “Original Buff will increase our funding capabilities this year by a massive 30%, taking the funding EOCA is able to put into conservation for 2011 to almost EUR 250,000. In conservation terms, this is an incredible achievement and we are very excited that one of our newest members has responded to our work in this way”.

Elisabet Torras, marketing director of Barcelona-based Original Buff, explained: “We have only just joined EOCA, but have been really impressed by the work that it does. We have committed to putting 1% of the proceeds from Merino Wool Buff sales into something that would really make a difference to the environment around us. The hardest part of the whole process was choosing the projects we were going to support; there were so many really good ones.”

The projects chosen for funding by Original Buff are in Iceland, Wales and England, respectively involving sustainable tourism around geothermal areas, footpath repair work in Snowdonia and returning a valley in the Lake District to its original wild state.
