Suunto adds Greg Hill to athlete roster

Finnish sports measuring devices brand Suunto, part of the Amer Sports Corporation, has added skier and mountaineer Greg Hill to its professional athlete team. He will represent Suunto’s outdoor category of wrist-top computers.

In 2010, Greg Hill became the first person to log two million vertical feet of ski-touring in one year. He used a Suunto altimeter-barometer-compass device to record the altitude he travelled over 266 days of climbing and skiing. Averaging 7,570 feet (2,300 metres) per day, he climbed 71 peaks and logged 77 days of more than 10,000 vertical feet.

Under the deal with Suunto, he will use training wrist-tops to gear up for the ski season and maintain his fitness level during the winter schedule. He’ll use Suunto altimeter, barometer, compass watches to log his vertical distance hiked and skied, and to monitor weather trends for backcountry safety.

“In addition to his skill as an alpinist, Greg brings passion and inspiration to the Suunto team,” said Chris McKearin, Suunto consumer marketing and events co-ordinator. “He’s an accomplished athlete and outdoorsman who can motivate other enthusiasts in their own adventures. Trusting Suunto to log his accomplishment of two million vertical feet, we’re proud that Greg has been a Suunto user even before this official partnership.”
