Vietnam garment sector short of workers

28/04/2011
The deputy chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas), Pham Xuan Hong, has said that the garment sector in the Asian country is struggling to cope with an increase in orders.

Orders are up by 15% compared to this time last year, he said, and while this is good news for Vitas member companies, he pointed out that small-and-medium sized businesses in the garment and textile sector are beginning to run short of workers, making it difficult for them to keep pace with rising demand.

In the first fourth months of 2011, the sector’s export earnings reached nearly $4 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of over 33%.
