Dryarn scores well in Turin tests

Aquafil’s polypropylene microfibre brand Dryarn came through tests carried out by the department for material science and chemical engineering at Turin Polytechnic earlier this year with positive results. A project that also involved an Italian organisation called the Fabrics and Health Association sought to evaluate the thermo-physiological comfort of fabric made from 100% Dryarn, compared to fabrics made from cotton, nylon and polyester.

The results showed that Dryarn scored better than the other fibres analysed in terms of thermo-regulation, breathability and drying speed.

In physical laboratory tests the fabric made of Dryarn microfibres demonstrated higher performance compared to the other fabrics, in terms of lightness of weight, drying speed and ability to allow perspiration to escape easily, properties that Aquafil says translate into “an excellent capacity for thermo-regulation and earning Dryarn the highest comfort index among the fibres tested”.

The second phase of the project, the wearing of the fabrics in a room under controlled climate conditions tested the actual behaviour of each under conditions of high exertion with significant perspiration.

Athletes wearing the Dryarn T-shirt had a lower heart rate and less cardiocirculatory stress. Athletes who took part also scored it best for breathability and the management of perspiration.
