The company was founded by a group of ex-Timberland executives who had worked on the GoLite range of outdoor shoes and decided to buy the brand from their former employer when Timberland decided to stop its production.
Chief executive, Doug Clark, has said New England Footwear hopes one day to bring production back to the US from China. He explained that his company had developed a new moulding process, which will mean its shoes can be developed in a less labour-intensive way.
The new moulding process will also help New England Footwear switch from petroleum-based raw materials to biodegradable alternatives.
