Ireland: marathon runners to wear Under Armour t-shirts

12/05/2011

Every full-course runner at the Bord Gáis Energy Cork City Marathon 2011, held in Cork, Ireland, will receive an Under Armour Performance Catalyst T-shirt, made from four recycled plastic bottles.

On 6 June 2011, up to 2,000 runners will complete the 42.2 kilometre course through Cork City wearing the performance tops which are made from plastic bottles melted down and stretched into super fine fibres that Under Armour uses to create the Catalyst fabric. According to Under Armour, the fabric has the same four way stretch, anti-odour technology and temperature regulations as the brand’s other performance t-shirts but leaves less of a carbon footprint.

Ger Cunningham, Bord Gáis Energy Sports Sponsorship said: “With nearly 2,000 runners expected to complete the full marathon this year, we are delighted to have teamed up with Under Armour to lower our carbon footprint and offer participants these recycled tops.”

Peter Conneely, Under Armour sales manager said: “We are delighted to partner with Bord Gáis Energy in supplying our Catalyst T-Shirt for this prestigious event. Choosing an Under Armour Catalyst T-Shirt contributes in a small way to lowering our carbon footprint.”

The Bord Gáis Energy Cork City Marathon takes place on Monday 6 June when over 10,000 athletes are expected to take part between the individual, half marathon and relay events.
