World cup winner secures department store concession for rugby brand

Retail group House of Fraser is pleased to announce that sports clothing brand Raging Bull will launch its first concession in its Cheltenham store in the west of England at the end of May. Rugby is the most popular sport in the region.

On announcing the development, John King, chief executive of House of Fraser, said: "Raging Bull has credibility and great potential as a brand. With a genuine sports heritage that comes from the label's founder, rugby legend Phil Vickery, we are confident that the combination of quality and relaxed British style will be a success with our customers."

A former England national team captain, and World Cup winner in 2003, Phil Vickery (1.90 metres in height and 125 kilos in weight) may have seemed an unlikely entry to the apparel business. He left school at the age of 16 and worked as a herdsman on his parents' farm in Devon. He remains a qualified cattle inseminator. But he decided to launch Raging Bull in 2007, three years before he gave up playing elite rugby.

The brand offers rugby clothing and leisurewear in its collections, including T-shirts, polo shirts and hooded tops for men and women. For men there are also casual rugby shirts and bottoms and a range of dress shirts. On the sportswear side, there are match and training kits for rugby teams.

"This move to concessions is the next stage in the brand's developing business," Phil Vickery said on securing the deal with House of Fraser. “These are exciting times for us with the brand growing so fast. It is really encouraging for us to be stocked at a prestigious store such as House of Fraser and it reflects the direction we want the brand to go in."
