Terra Nova earns new Guinness Book of Records entry

Outdoor brand Terra Nova has received confirmation that its Laser Ultra 1 tent will go into the Guinness Book of Records. The tent is the official world record holder for the lightest tent commercially available. The tent weighs just under 600 grammes.

Terra Nova won its first entry into the Guinness World Record for the lightest commercially available tent in 2004, at that time for the Terra Nova Laserlite, a one-person tent weighing just over one kilo. The company has since held the record four times.

The Laser Ultra 1 has been designed for short-duration ultra events. Although its style follows that of the popular Laser tent range developed by Terra Nova, the most striking difference is the colour; the silver translucent Ultra fabric used for the flysheet is lightweight but strong.

On hearing confirmation of the news, Terra Nova managing director, Andy Utting, said: "It is great to see our investment in new technologies paying off. When we launched the Laserlite, people were sceptical of the robustness of such lightweight tents. Seven years later, a single-person tent has to be less than one kilo to be considered light."
