Puma CEO confirms cotton sourcing
Jochen Zeitz, the chairman and CEO of German sportswear and footwear brand Puma has said that 15% of the cotton the company now uses is either from Africa or organically grown. This updates the announcement by Puma in April 2010 that it would favour organic cotton and producers from Africa.
When asked by sportstextiles.com, Mr Zeitz said: “About 15% of our cotton will be sourced from either Africa or be organically grown. What we need to bear in mind is that cotton requires a lot of water as we have seen in our E P&L results and we therefore need to make sure that it isn’t grown in areas where water is very scarce.”
