Skirts or dresses only for women badminton players

The governing body for the sport of badminton, the Badminton World Federation (BWF), has released new guidelines for the clothing women players of the sports should follow.

With effect from June 1, women playing at the highest levels of the racquet sport are asked to wear only dresses or shirts and skirts to compete. In other words, the sport's authorities want women players to stop wearing shorts or trousers.

According to a statement from the BWF, these guidelines will help badminton "ensure attractive presentation".

The Kuala Lumpur-based body said that women wishing to cover their legs out of sensitivity for religious or cultural sentiment in some parts of the world should do so with stockings, leggings or even trousers, but with a skirt worn on top.
