Fila to acquire golf equipment brand

Korean sports footwear and apparel maker Fila will acquire golf equipment brand Acushnet, the companies have announced.

Acushnet makes Titleist golf equipment as well as FootJoy shoes and gloves. Its sales exceeded $1.2 billion in 2010, with almost half of its revenue generated outside the US.

Originally an Italian brand, Fila has been owned and operated in Korea since a takeover in 2007. Mirae Asset Private Equity Fund formed a consortium with Fila Korea to put the Acushnet deal together. The Korean buyers believe they can achieve substantial growth by taking Acushnet into the Chinese market.
