REI opens first Indiana store
US-based outdoor apparel, footwear and equipment retailer REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.) has announced plans to open a new store in Indianapolis, Indiana in spring 2012.
The company plans to build a one-story, approximately 2,200 square-metre store, offering outdoor gear and apparel for camping, climbing, cycling, fitness, hiking, paddling, snow sports and travel.
REI Indianapolis will house a bike shop for quick assemblies and repairs, as well as a seasonal gear rental department for customers looking to test new activities. The store’s community space will allow REI and its local partners to host classes, presentations and events to educate customers and members on a variety of outdoor topics.
“We look forward to inspiring, educating and outfitting Indianapolis outdoor enthusiasts for their adventures beginning next spring,” said Michelle Yancy, REI retail director for the Midwest district. “By partnering with the local community, the new store will help advance REI’s commitment to increase participation in outdoor activities and volunteerism in maintaining natural spaces.”
REI Indianapolis will be the company’s first store in Indiana. The company currently operates 117 retail stores in 28 states and two online stores and has its own line of REI brand and Novara bike products.
