A South Korean manufacturer of purified terephthalic acid (PTA), Lotte, has said it plans to invest up to $500 million in Pakistan developing its production facilities in Pakistan.

PTA is a key ingredient in the manufacture of synthetic yarns and fibres, especially polyester. Lotte’s existing production in Pakistan has an output of around 500,000 tonnes a year but reports suggest the company is aiming to double this in expectation of demand from textile manufacturers in Pakistan.
