Production of Japanese sewing machines increases

The Japan Sewing Machinery Manufacturers Association (JASMA) has reported that its member companies’ production of industrial and household sewing machines increased by 11.8% during the first quarter of 2011 compared to the same three months in 2010.

During January-March 2011 JASMA companies manufactured 58,000 machines with a combined value of more than $110 million, 17.8% higher than the figure for the first quarter last year.

Industrial sewing machines accounted for most of these; the total number produced was  29.3% higher at 46,800, with a value of $105 million, 23% up on the first quarter last year.
