Messe Frankfurt makes sustainable fashion award

Messe Frankfurt, organiser of the Techtextil exhibition, presented an award to two designers at the Berlin Fashion Week on July 6 as part of what it said was its “increasing commitment to the sustainable textiles segment”.

Based on the materials they used, as well as the manufacturing processes, social aspects, recyclability and end-of-life, the textil+mode Innovation Award 2011 in Sustainable Design went to Charlotte Ehrlicher and Marie Federlin for a concept they called the ‘egogamie’ collection.

During the awards ceremony in the Atrium of the Deutsche Bank in Berlin, Detlef Braun, member of the executive board of Messe Frankfurt, praised the concept of the two award winners. He said: “Sustainability should not leave a bulky mark on the outfits of the future. On the contrary, the increased attention ignites aesthetic driving forces. In other words, attention prompts designers to continuously seek new solutions and to branch out in innovative directions.”
