Cleaner options from Nüwa

19/07/2011
California-based Nüwa Textiles has announced details of some of the steps it has taken towards cleaner textile production with two new textile solutions for outdoor fabric applications. The first is water resistant and durable NuWAX, while the second is NuAG, a silver yarn blended with synthetic fibre for inherent antibacterial, anti-static, and deodorising properties.

NuWAX uses a paraffin wax finish for what the company calls “a naturally better, stronger and water-resistant solution”. It’s been tested for heavy metals and passes the European REACH requirements. Optional NuHyde, polyurethane, or TPU backing offers even greater waterproof protection and durability on the back.

“Most of the wax-based fabrics on the market right now are limited to cotton canvas materials. Hence the performance factor is not quite there. We try to combine the best of both worlds,” explains, Nüwa chief executive, Michael Shih.

NuAG-Silver fabric is a solution for bag liners, travel cases, pack liners and the like in a material that uses the inherent natural fibre qualities that are antibacterial, anti-fungal, and deodorising. Silver fibres have been used in textile for three decades.
