Designer Textiles receives bluesign accreditation

28/07/2011

New Zealand-based knitwear and garment producer Designer Textiles has achieved bluesign compliance. This certification ensures brands, retailers and consumers that the products meet bluesign’s environmental and health and safety requirements.

Brands and retailers seeking to become bluesign members or achieve bluesign certification for their products are required to use bluesign-approved raw materials and fabrics from suppliers and textile mills that are certified partners.

“The bluesign philosophy aligns strongly with our business approach,” said Malcolm Walkinshaw, CEO of Designer Textiles. “It is about undertaking the right approach for our environment, our customers and our business, taking into account the long term impact. We have already made some significant changes and because we are a manufacturer it is important we make a statement that we recognise the value of our environment and how we can improve and protect it for future generations. Hopefully other manufacturers will follow.

“At times it is an inconvenient path to follow as there is additional work needed to make sure we are using the best environmental solution. However, because we are clear that the environment is a key consideration in our values, we don’t need to consider the inconvenience – we just get on with it and do the right thing!”
