Bangladesh looks to new markets for apparel

The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) of Bangladesh has said apparel manufacturers there should looks for new overseas markets to boost growth.

“We mainly depend on the US and Europe for garment exports,” said Jalal Ahmed, vice-chairman of the EBP in a statement on August 10. “Now we are looking for new export markets such as Brazil, Russia, Australia, South Africa and South Korea to give a big boost to the apparel industry.”

He said India and China are also becoming potential markets for garment exports. Mr Ahmed added: “It took a long time [for Bangladesh] to reach a global position. The world’s apparel buyers are eying Bangladesh as a country that is able to supply quality materials in a timely way.”
