Athletes and ASICS launch running courier service in London

Sports footwear brand ASICS has teamed up with taxi and courier firm Addison Lee to launch London’s first ever running courier service. A team of highly trained athletes will become the most environmentally friendly couriers in the city, delivering small packages and parcels across central London, running all the way. A percentage of all proceeds customers pay will be donated to the Red Cross.

In all, a team of 20 athletes will run through the streets of London, carrying some of the 60,000 objects that Addison Lee transports each month. The service will run initially for one week as a trial.

Tim Don, one of the UK’s leading triathletes and an ASICS ambassador, reacted to the news by saying: “This is a really innovative and environmentally friendly way to beat the traffic of central London. The team are going to have to work very hard but we hope the businesses of London will keep them busy with plenty of orders so we raise as much money as possible for the Red Cross.”

John Griffin, chairman of Addison Lee, said: “This has got to be the greenest way possible to deliver parcels and we’re expecting lots of our corporate clients to jump at this opportunity and support a very good cause.”

A trial began on August 15 with the service available between 9am and 6pm each day until August 19, with running couriers joining the standard Addison Lee courier circuit.
