New outdoor chain to open in New Zealand
The first store of a planned chain of specialty outdoor outlets in New Zealand has opened in the northern city of Manukau. The new brand, called FCO (Fishing Camping Outdoors), is owned by Super Retail Group, which is listed on the Australian stock exchange.
The Queensland-based group is best known in New Zealand for its automotive parts arm Supercheap Auto which has 273 stores, 230 of which are in Australia and 43 of which are in New Zealand.
The company plans to open 10 FCO stores in the North Island by the end of December 2011 at a cost of $12.3 million (NZ$15 million). Its eventual target is 20 stores nationwide.
Net investment per store is put at about $1.2 million (NZ$1.5 million) while estimated staff numbers will be 150 by the end of 2012.

The company said the store would focus on fishing, camping, boating, kayaking and outdoor apparel.
