Fake rugby shirts seized

Customs officials in South Africa have uncovered a consignment of suspected counterfeit shirts in the colours of the nation’s rugby team, the Springboks. They calculated the retail value of the sports apparel at more than $6 million.

The South African Rugby Union has called on fans to show their support for the Springboks in the build-up to the 2011 Rugby World Cup, which starts in New Zealand next month and runs until October 23, by wearing the team’s shirt to work on Fridays. Some employers have talked about supplying workers with the shirts.

Canterbury is the official supplier of the South Africa national team rugby shirt for the tournament.
