Floods hit cotton crop in Pakistan

At least 40% of cotton crop has been damaged in the Sindh province of Pakistan because of heavy rain. The chairman of the Cotton Broker Forum, Naseem Usman, said about 500,000 bales have reached market already, but the rest of the province’s cotton crop was still in the field when floods hit Tharparkar, Hyderabad, Badin and Thatta on Turdau.

He said that Sindh had been expected to harvest 4.5 million cotton bales this year, but after this damage, he accepted that the crop would fall by 1 to 1.2 million bales.

Usman said that Federal Ministry for Food and Agricultural had set the target of 15 million bales for cotton this year, but this target will not be achieved after heavy rains.
