Canterbury and Invista combine on shirts for Rugby World Cup
07/09/2011
Canterbury selected Invista’s Lycra Sport fabric to enhance the shirts it has developed for the tournament, which include customised, position-specific designs and fit and fabric that it believes will help players avoid tackles. The shirts, which will be worn by five teams at the event, including defending world champions South Africa, also offer a combination of light weight, breathability, muscle support and freedom of movement.
“Working with Invista over the last year has ensured that our garments withstand the harsh conditions athletes face on the rugby field,” said Chris Stephenson, chief executive of Canterbury in the immediate build-up to the competition.
For his part, Simon Whitmarsh-Knight, marketing account director for activewear and outdoor at Invista, said: “We are happy to see one of Invista’s innovations featured at this year’s Rugby World Cup, providing the world’s best players with a high-performance kit.”
Twenty countries will contest the 2011 Rugby World Cup. The teams wearing Canterbury shirts will be South Africa, the US, Russia, Japan and Scotland.
