Increased availability of irrigation water has led to a forecast rise in cotton plantings in Australia for the forthcoming spring and summer planting and growing  season.

The amount of land dedicated to growing cotton in Australia, the seventh largest producer of cotton in the world, is forecast by the federal government to be slightly higher than last season at around 600,000 hectares with production forecast to reach a record 1.1 million tonnes.
